Intro to Painting
To paint, it helps to understand the structure of art. To understand the structure of art- and use that structure in your own art work- you must know its basic elements and the main ideas that form its foundation. Like the color wheel, the elements and principles of design help you simplify and talk about complicated concepts; like a road map, they show you what you need to get where you’re going.
Understanding these elements and principles helps you organize your paintings and gives you a special vocabulary you can use to talk about your art and your visual environment.
Students must have some observational drawing skills.
Fundamentals of Digital Photography
Learn to take control of your digital camera in this six meeting workshop. Before you can make creative photographs you need to learn what your camera is doing and how to control it. This workshop will cover the factors of exposure, the shooting modes, the white balance, and the auto focus systems of digital cameras. Time will be spent with the histogram, a way to assure you have a good exposure, and flash techniques. Basic composition and specific areas of photography (nature, portraits, travel, and holidays) will be covered. How to get the photographs out of the camera and into the computer will also be covered. Learning about your camera and what it is doing will help you take consistently good photographs. Please bring your camera and lens, instruction manual, memory card, a charged battery, and a notebook. Handouts will be provided.

Advance Painting
As important as the elements and principles of design are in painting, they are not art in themselves. Art begins with ideas, and ideas do not always come easily. Before you start painting, you should have a plan-an idea, subject or theme- something you wish to portray, explore, express or create. In this class you will learn to search for ideas- to see things in your everyday world from a new viewpoint. You will discover new ways to perceive and select subject matter and different approaches to painting it.
Students must have some observational painting skills.
